The Department of Fine Arts and Communication consists of three main areas of instruction: Music (MUS, MUO, MUA) Visual Arts (ART), and Speech and Theatre (SPT). Our highly-qualified, experienced, and caring faculty has dedicated themselves to provide our students with the best instruction possible. A variety of course offerings for both the student choosing to major in one of these areas and for the general student population are available. Please consult the college catalog for a comprehensive list and description of all courses.
Numerous arts events and performances are presented throughout the year by the college’s award-winning performing ensembles, visual art students and theatre program. The department also hosts guest concerts and recitals on campus throughout the year. These events are usually held in Malone Chapel on our Poplarville campus and are open to the public. Please consult the schedule of events for a current list of scheduled performances.
Pearl River Community College has recently made a huge commitment to the future of the arts in south Mississippi with its plans to construct the Ethel Holden Brownstone Center for the Arts. The Brownstone Center will be a state-of-the-art facility and will include a spacious auditorium with a scenery shop and orchestra pit, a visual arts gallery, and a spacious lobby and reception area. It will adjoin newly renovated rehearsal areas for instrumental, vocal, and dance ensembles. New instructional and office space for the Fine Arts and Communications Department faculty and students will also be completed in the near future.
