River soccer squads shut out East Central

Lady ’Cats bomb Lady Warriors 10-0; Wildcats 6-0 winners

     POPLARVILLE — Pearl River Community College’s women’s and men’s soccer teams remain perfect in MACJC South Division action, as they shut out East Central’s squads by convincing margins here Wednesday to improve to 4-0 each.
      The Lady Wildcats, 6-1 overall, blew out the Lady Warriors 10-0, while the Wildcats, 5-3 overall, took a lopsided 6-0 shutout victory.
      In the women’s game, Breeana Fortenberry of Picayune High led the way with three goals, while solo goals were scored by Melly Brown of Slidell, La., Kayleigh Davis of Bay High, Hannah Ezell of Moss Point, Laura Kramer of Hattiesburg High, Mary Beth Patten of Poplarville High, Dana Speed of North Forrest, and Lauren Williams of Meridian.
      Davis, Fortenberry, Danielle LeBlanc of Bay High, Emily Leverette of Terry High, and Carmen Perez of Navarre, Fla., had assists for the Lady Wildcats who led 6-0 at the intermission.
      In the men’s nightcap game, Adam Herrin of Pearl River Central scored three goals inthe first half, while Larry Edwards of Fruitland Park and Kyle Williams of Gulfport High had solo goals to propel the Wildcats to a commanding 5-0 lead at the half. Jacob Papania of George County scored in the second half.
      Josh Barfield of Hancock County finished the game with three assists, while Matt Barton of Petal High and Jeff Lazenby of North Forrest had one each.
      East Central’s women dropped to 0-7 overall and 0-4 in division play, while its men dropped to 2-6-1 and 0-4.
Pearl River returns to action Friday when non-division rival Hinds visits for 5 p.m. (women) and 7 p.m. (men) contests.
